| I’m having a dental emergency! |
| If
you are having serious pain, or have a swelling below your jaw in the area
of your neck that is getting worse, it’s time to visit the local emergency
room. This is a good time to call Dr. Callaghan at (805) 252-6335 or Dr. Lee (626) 203-3670. These are their cell phone numbers and this is the best way to reach them. Call anytime, and as soon as possible. If you have suffered a dental trauma (damage to your teeth due to physical force) resulting in losing, breaking or chipping your tooth or teeth, this is a good time to call the Drs. If your tooth came fully out, place it in room temperature milk. Do not attempt to clean the tooth and call the Drs. Immediately, time is important here. If your tooth broke and a piece came off, don’t worry about the lost piece, but call the Drs. immediately. If you are having mild to moderate pain this is a good time to take some over-the-counter pain medications that you may have in your medicine cabinet. If this helps, remember to call the office in the morning for an appointment to get the potential problem taken care of. Appointments are always available the same day you call if you are having discomfort so make sure you mention you need an appointment that same day. If you just had a dental appointment and are having a problem: You recently had a dental procedure and are experiencing cold or heat sensitivity, give it a little time. Unfortunately, that happens but it will gradually diminish until it’s gone altogether. When you bite down it feels funny. Make an appointment to have the work checked, sometimes dental work can be “high” - this happens because you may not be biting normally when you are numb but after it wears off, your bite changes slightly. A simple adjustment of the dental work can make you feel much better in about two minutes. You had a tooth removed and it continues to bleed. Remember that bleeding is a healthy response in order to heal. Place some gauze over the area and bite down with gentle-to-slight pressure and repeat until bleeding stops. If you run out of gauze you can use a moistened tea bag. Taking aspirin can cause longer than average bleeding. If you are unable to control the bleeding after repeated attempts, call the Dr. |
